Tommy Hilfiger is an iconic american menswear brand. I’ve never been afforded the opportunity to attend his shows, but this season, KCD was far too kind. It was a surreal moment for me. In 89, my dad introduced me to Tommy Hilfiger. I was only 7 years old, but I remember the shirts hanging in his closet. Years later, at about 11 years old, I started to wear some of his old shirts. They were a few seasons old but I didn’t care. They were unique, bright colors and no one else had them. The kids made fun of me for the clothes, being from a small town, they didn’t always get what FASHION was. But I did.. and I knew from those pieces from my dad’s closet.. that I would be in fashion some day. Two decades later, I’m sitting down watching the TOMMY HILFIGER fashion show was just a dream come true. Further evidence that I’m the right track.
The show was at the PARK ARMORY and at first glance, the set looked like Bryant Park. Obviously even Tommy knows the magic that Bryant Park used to give. But it’s more than Bryant Park, the collection is inspired by a schoolboy prep look. Put it this way, if there was a finishing all-boys school, this is how the students would dress. Mixing equestrian looks with military, Tommy Hilfiger not only presented quality work but made sure he made relevant choices. It’s all in the details. With such a heavy outerwear offering, one could get bored. Yet Tommy wows use with his use of convertible coats that can go from car coats to pea coats. From the quilted sleeve baseball jackets, the embroidered tops, the striped turtlenecks, trim line blazers, and use of leather. The collection was awesome. Check it out my favorite looks below.
