Its been a long time since we last heard from Usher. Usher has released a single “Papers” of the tentatively titled “Raymond Vs Raymond” album. “Papers” reunites Usher with songwriter Sean Garrett (who has written a myriad of hits including Usher’s megahit “Yeah”). The song is the first R&B ballad for produced by Zaytoven (who is most known for his work with Gucci Mane). The song can be best described a “southern bounce ballad”. It has the potential to be a big single, playing on both urban and TOP 40 radio stations. Despite its heavy subject matter, its the sort of mega-song we come to expect from Usher.
Like many artists, Usher sings songs that directly reflect what he’s going through at this time. Vocally he’s more vulnerable than I can remember. When Usher sings “I damn near lost my mama, I’ve been through so much drama, I done turned into the man I never thought I’d be, I’m ready to sign them papers”. OUCH. A far cry from the lyrics of Here I Stand which he crooned “no matter how far I go, no matter how long it takes, no one or nothing can change, forever yours, here I stand.” Usher is hurting. In this song, he sings for himself but for all the men and women who have been hurt and are ready to sign them papers.
Usher has been working on his album” ever since he announced that he was filing for divorce. His last album “Here I Stand” left him at a bit out of standstill. Despite star production, it failed to have the success of his album “Confessions”.The new album is rumored to be released on December 8th of this year.
